One thing I have always sucked at: name creation. Whether it be on a game and I name my ingame avatar Bob, or if its an important university project; I always spend the most time stuck on this step. During the lecture I absorbed every single possible way to create names and branding advice. The best way I found was to do a brain-storm! See the image for my results.
I quite liked toying with the idea of ‘night’, as you can possibly tell be the large expansion in that area alone. Associations with animals work pretty well for businesses, but I’m not sure if ‘Hedgehog’ is quite the right direction to go in. I really did like the idea of using Nocturnal as the name of the App, but after a quick bit of research I found that there is actually an App with a similar idea to mine in America, with that actual name, damn.
Using synonyms and similar words to nocturnal I found a few, but they all related to medical problems. ‘Nocturia’ is the need to wake up and urinate at night, which isnt really giving off the right impression. After the disappointment of not being able to use Nocturnal, I have found Nightly to be the next best alternative.
The definition of nightly on Wikipedia is:
‘An event which occurs once every night.’
This name does kind of limit the App to being evening events, but after looking back at my idea; 99% of event content will be evening-based; so it kind of fits. First off I am going to keep this App region based, so naming the App ‘Nightly Plymouth’ keeps it local like my original idea. After later development I could drop the Plymouth keyword, but for now it should stick so users of the App feel as if its ‘unique’ and ‘special’ to the area; which is what Plymouth needs.
The only other example of ‘Nightly’ that I can find on the internet is completely unrelated. It is a service provided by internet-browser provider Firefox, where they release nightly builds of their product to users.
