Get around.

Wow, another big gap in postings, I apologise! Along with breaks comes creativity, and I have lots to show. In the past couple weeks I have done lots of work on NIGHTLY. First off was the quick 2 minute pitch, which was a rough gest towards the idea of my product with initial reactions from my peers. This pitch was filmed, which is what I am throwing the blame on to my nervousness; I speak with my mind… not with my mouth! I have actually had this footage for a couple of weeks now but have been pretty much too embarrased to post it up online. So I suppose I have manned-up and shared it with the rest of the world!

So, the pitch itself was *slightly* over the two minute mark. By slightly I mean doubled. It has been over a year since presenting any sort of ideas to groups of people, so things were bound to be rusty. I relied too much on my notes in front of me, onscreen were short cues but I found it hard to think on-the-fly about expanding upon the points. I also manage to babble alot. As much as I criticise others for going off on random tangents I am guilty as any other, how could a 2 minute pitch stretch out to 12 minutes in total!

Embarassment aside, I think I got my idea across to the class pretty well. When you receive lots of questions it can mean one of two things: either everybody is interested, or you didnt manage to let across all of the information required. I’m hoping its the former rather than the latter, but who knows.

Now, time for the second pitch, which I hope went much better than the last! I apologise for the slides not being too visible, the projector in the room isnt too good at displaying orange it seems.

For one I was alot more confident with this video! The usage of visuals brought peoples eyes away from me, and to stare at key points on the wall. I was still very nervous on this occasion as you can probably tell, as there was alot of repitition and jumbling of words. You cant see the full length of the video as the camera cut short on the questions, but there was alot less questions than in my previous pitch. A few of the questions that arose were kind of obvious questions which I facepalm myself for now, and should have included in the presentation.

The following week, we were to form into groups for our business ideas. As I have mentioned previously, the idea of forming a company really excites me. It also excites a few coursemates of mine who I have worked on projects previously with, and we have devised to pull together and make things happen. First off we wanted to do another persons idea which was to go into eLearning games with a narrative. This would be part of carrying on our prized “Poseidon” game and making it more widely available in schools and education. As workaholic as we are, we kept refining our ideas and seeing what was most viable for this module and to create a start-up business. With the nature of NIGHTLY using an advert-based system, we thought it would be a good idea to build it as one of the companies core pillars. This means temporarily shifting away from the eLearning and focusing on creating the NIGHTLY experience for the module; not to mention it would be a good product to run in the background and keep up a more steady revenue.

I have a team!

There is still lots of individual work to do on the project before next term, which I should have posted over the coming weeks. In this there will be a more in-depth and critical comparison of the two pitch videos, picking apart absolutely everything!
